PIRATE - How Can PIRATE Help Me?

Current research shows that individuals with chronic aphasia can make significant gains in communication ability with behavioral speech-language therapy.

Gains often are greater when therapy is provided on a more intensive schedule.

VA Pittsburgh has developed the PIRATE intensive outpatient residential aphasia therapy program for Veterans in order to provide more intensive aphasia treatment.

The language therapy provided will be individually tailored to meet your wants and needs. Treatment will include 1-on-1 therapy with speech pathologists, group therapy, and computer activities.

After completing the program, you may be given a home-therapy program to help maintain and continue improvements made during PIRATE treatment.

Additionally, spouses and significant others will have the opportunity to participate in educational and counseling aspects of the program to further improve your therapy gains.
