Deputy Director David P. Cord
David P. Cord began his command as deputy director of VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System (VAPHS) on June 4, 2012.
Cord brings an extensive range of experience to the position and is a valuable asset to the VAPHS leadership team.
"VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System has an outstanding reputation and my goal will be to do my part to continue to maintain that excellence in providing care to Veterans," Cord said.
Prior to this appointment, Cord was the associate director for finance at the VA Maryland Health Care System for nearly two years. In this role he oversaw an annual operating budget of more than $500 million and also served as the site manager for Perry Point, the largest inpatient facility in the VA Maryland Health Care System.
Cord began his VA career at VAPHS, where he held several positions, including supervisor of employee and labor relations as well as assistant human resources officer.
"I have always hoped to return to the Pittsburgh area," Cord said. "Working at multiple facilities during my career has given me a better understanding of our system and offered lessons that I can bring back to Pittsburgh."
Cord spent more than five years on active duty in the U.S. Air Force, including serving as a Judge Advocate General's Officer, responsible for prosecuting court-martials.
"Because of my time in the United States Air Force, I have a deep personal appreciation for the commitment each and every Veteran has made in service to our country," Cord said.
He earned bachelor's degrees in English literature and psychology from the University of Pittsburgh and a Juris Doctorate from Duquesne University.
Cord's appointment fills the vacancy left by John Gennaro, who was recently appointed as the director of nearby VA Butler Healthcare.
