Intern and Fellowship Opportunities

Each year, nearly 1,300 people complete training experiences in a wide variety of occupations at VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System. We offer trainees a unique educational experience. Students at the college, university, and post-graduate levels are encouraged to explore career training here.

VA's Office of Academic Affiliations would like clinical trainees to take the Learners' Perceptions Survey after completing a significant portion of their training.  The survey asks you to rate various aspects of your clinical training experience. Information from the survey provides feedback in identifying areas of excellence as well as areas needing improvement.

Medical Training

VAPHS is affiliated with the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Medical Education Program, providing educational experiences for interns, residents, and fellows. Interns, residents, and fellows complete VAPHS rotations in a variety of specialties including, but not limited to:

  • critical care
  • primary care
  • internal medicine & various subspecialties
  • surgery
  • neurology
  • plastics
  • thoracic

Associated Health Programs

VA Pittsburgh offers both paid and unpaid (With Out Compensation – WOC) educational experiences for associated health trainees. Some of our programs include:
