Where to Stay
In general, visitors to VA Pittsburgh are not permitted to stay overnight in the medical center. To assist you and your family in planning for your stay in Pittsburgh, we are providing some lodging options below.

Pittsburgh Fisher House
The Pittsburgh Fisher House is a 10-bedroom "home away from home" and provides a place for visiting families to stay, free of charge, while their loved ones receive inpatient medical care at VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System. The Pittsburgh Fisher House is professionally furnished and features a common kitchen, laundry facilities, spacious dining room, living room with a library, and toys for children.
Veterans and their families should talk to their social worker in advance to request a referral, and referrals do not guarantee room availability. Fisher House staff will notify guests 24 hours prior to check-in if a room is available. To be eligible to stay at the Fisher House, guests must:
- be family members or caregivers of inpatients or Veterans receiving extended, recurring outpatient therapy
- reside more than 50 miles from VA Pittsburgh
- be self-sufficient and able to independently care for themselves
- be able to stay in an unsupervised setting

Family House
Family House provides a special "home away from home" for patients and/or families who must travel to Pittsburgh for treatment of serious or life-threatening illnesses. Family House has four locations in the area. Room rates per night are $40/single, $50/double & $60-75/suite. Amenities include private baths and a shared cooking facility. Nearby hotels range from $69 to $139+/night (Be sure to ask for the hospital rate). All hotels have shuttle service to the
VA hospitals.
