The VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System is committed to providing a safe environment for research subjects (human and animal) and all research personnel. The links below provide information related to working safely with radioactive materials or sources of ionizing radiation, and the forms you will complete and have been approved by the Radiation Safety Committee to assure we have appropriate oversight and continue to maintain safe research facilities.

VA Central Office (VACO) requires that all laboratory research personnel working with ionizing radiation receive general training, and that this be updated annually. The VAPHS training can be accessed below. This training is a review of materials contained in the VAPHS Research Radiation Safety Policy which you can access on line, or consult the copy in your laboratory. Training specific to the procedures and protocols used in your Lab will be provided by your PI or supervisor and should be ongoing.
