DAV Volunteer Drivers Needed

Ron BoydenBecause so many sick and disabled Veterans lack transportation to and from VA medical facilities for needed treatment, the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) operates a nationwide transportation network to meet this need.

Travel benefit cuts left many Vets with no way to get to VA medical facilities for needed treatment. They may live a great distance from a VA hospital, and because so many exist on small fixed incomes, they find that the cost of transportation to a VA hospital is just too high. So DAV and auxiliary volunteers assist by driving Vets to and from VA hospitals and clinics.

VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System and the DAV work with county Veterans Affairs directors to provide transportation for Veterans to and from VAPHS for scheduled medical appointments.

Currently, approximately 20 vans serve VA Pittsburgh from 18 different counties. Each month, between 1,500 and 1,700 Veterans receive DAV transportation.

For more information about becoming a volunteer driver, call 412-360-3990.
